Sala Avenue and the historic district

Sala Avenue is the heart of Westwego’s historic district. The area grew around the river, the railroad, and the Westwego canal, and it absorbed the former village of Salaville. The Westwego Historical Museum is on Sala Avenue.
Properties in the district may need administrative review of exterior changes, including roofing materials and how the roof looks from the street, before a permit is issued.
